Question about X1-1

Postby Roger » Wed Apr 27, 2011 9:41 am

Hi,
Can I short X1-1 to X4-2 using an e-stop switch? I'm not sure because X1-1(and its associated db25 pin 10) has 3v when the bob is powered up. I cross referenced the other designs on the site but the 5axisdiy is the only one that has +3v on X1-1. I thought I would ask before making magic smoke.

thanks,
Roger

You can, but you shouldn't have 3V on X1-1. You should have 5V on X1-1 via R9 to +5V. If your connected to a PC, then you have pin 10 configured as an output, not an input.

My mistake, I do actually have +5v on X1-1 and pin 10. I should also mention that I don't have the voltage regulator and related components installed since I am providing +5v and ground at 5VDC and GND pins. I plan to power the card from my drivers eventually.

In EMC I have pins 10-15 setup as inputs. Do you mean I should have pin 10 setup as an output? I guess I can mark pin 10 as unused for now but i'm curious. What was/is X1-1 intended for?

thanks,
Roger

For X1-1 I updated the wiki page: http://pminmo.com/PMinMOwiki/index.php5?title=5axis

You don't have to have pin 10 as an output, it can be used as an input.
