Which controller for this stepper motors?

Postby toneV8 » Thu Aug 10, 2006 11:25 pm

I have this stepper motors
I find them from old printers some stepper motors:

It is manufactured by Tokyo Electric Co., Ltd. - I have 9 stepper
Model: Sph-54C-8
Name : TEC CLA45-50101
Specifications:
voltage - 8V DC
resistance - 10 ohms/phase
step angle - 1.8 deg/step
6 wires

It is manufactured by Kyushu Matsu****a electric Co. Ltd -I have 1 stepper
C??45-01102
Specifications:
voltage 3V
resistance 3,5 ohms/phase
step angle 1.8 deg/step
6 wires

It is manufactured by Tokyo Electric Co., Ltd - I have 5 stepper
Model: SP-55a-16
Specifications:
voltage 16V
resistance 65 ohms/phase
step angle 7,5 deg/step
6 wires

It is manufactured by Fuji Electrochemical Co. - I have 5 stepper
Model: SM55-4813A
Specifications:
voltage 16V
resistance 65 ohms/phase
step angle ( do not know )deg/step
6 wires

Now question is:
1. which of them to use for small cnc mill maybe foam milling
2. what kaind 3 axis controller to use with this motors
3.how to know does it unipolar or bipolar motor
4.how much steps
5.how much torque

I already have machine design so I want now start with electronics

Please help me with electronics.
THANKS!

The good news: all the motors are 6 wire so you can run them either unipolar or bipolar. The bad news, I doubt any of them are very powerfull. The 16V coils are probably the least powerfull of the bunch. The first two might be strong enough for a real small machine, but it will have to be mechanically very efficient (real low friction, high efficiency rotary to linear conversion).

Before I could make any recommendations, I need to know how accessable parts are for you?

Accessable for parts I think that I will manage somehow.

So what kaind 3 axis controller to use with first two motors.
I would like to use stronger controller because later on I will use controller for bigger machine, bigger stepper motors......... This machine is only for learning stage.

if you can get SLA7062's that would be my recommendation right now.

So I need 3x SLA7062 ''Part list''. Approximately how much cost ''Part list'' for each SLA7062 Driver Board.

- on Allegro SLA7062 Stepper Driver Board does it possible connect limit and Estop switch and LED's for those switches
- do you have PCB's for Allegro SLA7062 Stepper Driver Board
- do you have schematic for connections 3xSLA7062 Stepper Driver Board with parallel port

parallel port
/ I \
1axis 2axis 3axis

-when assemble all parts from ''Part list'' on PCB do I need test something: voltage,resistant..........

Sorry for my ignorance aboute electronics because I am beginner in this.

I would estimate the compenets to be less than $10 per board plus the cost of the sla7062 chips.

Use the 4 axis interface on my website to interface the parallel port to a PC, switchs, estop....

I don't presently have boards for sale on the sla7062, plan on it in the future.

With 3x SLA7062 Driver Board I also need tu build 4 axis interface to connect 3x SLA7062 Driver Board.

-how much ampere....... have 4 Axis interface board from Chris, does it Unipolar or Bipolar.

The sla7062 is rated at 3A up to the 46V max. Chris's 4 axis interface is fine. You don't need the all the voltage regulators. The interface has no implication on the unipolar or bipolar driver. The sla7062 is unipolar.

PMinMO: what you thing about this 3 axis unipolar stepper motors.Does it 1.25A per phase or total on board. FrankG at http://www.theworkshop.ca build this board using printer stepper motors.

It should work, there is no current limiting so you either have to run with power resistors or accept the performance of the stepper at its rated voltage.

Sorry to bother you so meny times.

Do you know something about this 3 axis unipolar stepper motor driver kit.

Does it wisely to conect my motors on bipolar driver board and how much torque will get. How much torque in percentage.

3 Axis HCNCPRO Driver Board Kit $79USD + $15 S/H Int'l Orders is little expensive because machine I plane to build cost me ~80$. Where can I buy sla7062 and how much cost.

What means on this web page '' request samples''

Allegro supplies samples at no cost to projects that they believe will sell more of their product.

I can't advise you on the torque, too many variables.

To build 3x SLA7062 Driver Board I need 3x SLA7062 Translator/Drivers.

So I need to request samples for 3 ''SLA7062MLF2102''.
What means this note ''MLF2102'' addition to SLA7062.
